First Steps to Immigrate to Canada as a Worker

First steps to immigrate to Canada as a Worker

How to get a job in Canada. Before you start to apply or even before you accept that new job in Canada, there are several things you need to ensure are ready to go.

  1. Language testing – Every program will require you to prove your English or French ability and then prove it with an official test from one of the official testing agencies accepted by Canada Immigration. Your score will impact which programs and type of work you are able to perform in Canada. Make sure you sign up for the general testing.

  2. Education credential assessment (ECA) – some jobs have requirements for your education to be equivalent to different levels of education in Canada. The ECA will assess your achievements against the same Canadian education and provide an official equivalency score.

  3. Your resume – Canadian hiring practices are different from where you live and many people are surprised at what is included as well as what is left out of a professional Canadian resume. Often your resume can be discarded without a glance because it is not Canadianized.

Getting the job is only the beginning – now you need to get here and navigate all the visa, entry and immigration requirements. It’s much more than just applying for a work permit.

By working with LDP Immigration, we will make sure that you are ready to accept that job offer and then plan your ultimate process. Not only for this work permit but, a plan to bring your spouse and children, then how to move forward for permanent residence in the long term. Even if you think you have found a good pathway for your goals, there may be another option you weren’t even aware of.

I like to spend time getting to know your goals for immigration, learning about your background and specific needs. Then I can make suggestions based on your individual situation and we can discuss the pros and cons of each option. I will help you understand and prepare for your language and education assessments, and provide you with a Canadian resume template and understanding of the Canadian hiring process.

If you’re seeking an immigration consultant who will provide this level of guidance and professionalism, I would be happy to meet with you to understand your immigration goals and see how you might start your Canadian Immigration journey.
